Help - Lost Profile - how to restore?

Tcopson

Firefox was running slow so I clicked on the option to speed it it up, which lead me to a button to refresh. When it was performing the refresh it showed some progress bars and then hanged for about 20 mins before I clicked out of the "almost there" progress bar and force quit the app.

Now when I try to open Firefox it says Cannot find profile. I've done a search and it says I need to delete profile.ini however the path to find this isn't where mozilla help forum is saying it should be?

Can someone help either restore which would be preferred or do I just delete the app from computer and reinstall from scratch as I've tried a new download and replaced the current one but I still get same issue and pop up saying profile can't be loaded or found.

Which steps are you following to get to the Firefox folder where you should find profiles.ini ?

Maybe this article will work better: Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data

Note: There is a panel in the left column called Editing Tools. If the article doesn't show Mac-specific information, expand Editing Tools and change the OS selector to MacOS.

Sorry that was fatal for your data which is in RAM while the Refresh process is proceeding. End the process before is completed and your data disappears from RAM as the Firefox process is forced to close.

20 minutes for Refresh to run is a real long time with no visual indicator of progress. First time I used Refresh I got antsy when it got to 4 or 5 minutes.

I provided feedback to Mozilla about adding a progress indicator bar to show the user how far along the process is and to show that it's not a "hung" procedure, but rather it is still working towards an end.

Thanks - seems must have been fatal per my thoughts.

So will I have to delete Firefox and and do a clean install? I downloaded and replaced however I still get the same issue. I think I'll just have to do a clean install and see if that gets it working again.

Thanks again!
