Firefox 6.0.2 is an insecure version. Any particular reason you want that one??

A well-regarded university library is using 6.0.2. What stable and secure version do you suggest? And how can I download it? All I seem to be offered by the Mozilla site is 14, and I do not customarily install the most recent versions of applications.

I suppose it is possible that the well regarded university library is only using the insecure version on a secure internal intranet. Quite possibly also they are only using fx 6 prior to upgrading to ESR http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/organizations/ .

Firefox is now using a six week rapid release cycle, so users are also using

  • fx 10 ESR (not officially for individuals)
  • fx 15 the Beta channel
  • fx 16 Aurora channel
  • fx 17 Nightly

All the above are secure

Hi JBerson, I suggest Firefox 14. If there is a specific problem that affects you with some of the new features in Firefox, then we could figure out a version that works better for you and you could decide how you feel about the publicly disclosed security vulnerabilities in that version (i.e., how much risk you prefer to take).

Note that it often take a few days or weeks for security company add-ons to be updated for each new release of Firefox. However, there's a good chance most of your other add-ons are ready for Firefox 14.

The last automated suggestion I received from Firefox's daily notification that I ought to upgrade offered Firefox 12 (IIRC). Perhaps I should accept that?

Firefox 3.6 was supported fully (with security patches) until recently, but fx3.6 now updates to fx12, before then advising you to update to the current release.
