Tell me how to get to my gmail account using the Firefox browser without going through Mozilla. The extra step is irritating, to say the least. And I've been using gmail for years without Mozilla.

Hi Jane,

You don't need to go through Mozilla sign in to use gmail. Mozilla account is only needed to sync across your devices or to access Mozilla sites like this one.

Can you tell me more why you think you have to sign in through Mozilla to access gmail>

What a Mozilla Account is used for https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/access-mozilla-services-firefox-account#w_what-services-can-i-use-with-a-mozilla-account as I wonder why you think you need to login to a Mozilla Account to then log into Gmail site.
