Due to unfixable problems I wiped my Imac system drive and transferred a valid bookmarks.json file from my previous Firefox, copied before I had to reformat the disk. My previous Ventura data and backups were not transferable due to massive system data that could not be accessed. So I used my own backup files. The Import wizard does nothing but says it cannot find a file. There are no other options available. I have logged back in to my Firefox account and am using Mozilla VPN. How can I import this bookmarks file ?

Hi Arvid, You can only import bookmarks from html file format.

You can restore an HTML bookmarks backup, but this replaces all bookmarks, so you lose bookmarks that aren't in the backup.

You can look at this tool to convert a JSON backup to an HTML backup to be able to merge the bookmarks.
