Hello, Firefox randomly downloaded a file, with seemingly randomly name, that is 0 bytes and in download manager the source is moz-safe-about. It happened when I was accessing a popular wiki site. I opened the file in notepad, it was empty. I put it on virus total and came back negative, as it is an empty file. I've curbed through the support tickets here, using the keyphrase 'moz-safe-about'. I understand this was/is quite a common problem, but it still makes me quite worried and left a sour taste in my mouth, as I haven't understood any of the explanations. I have enabled firefox to ask me whenever it wants to save something (I have no idea why this isnt the default state). Happened on a somewhat fresh, updated win 11 installation. I'm also attaching more information here with a picture. Long story short: should I be worried? Am I overreacting and this is just some sort of a bug that occurred while getting a sites data? I cannot open any Games on the NY TImes site with FIrefox for the past month; no problem with Chrome. Today, two article links opened but then the page went blank (repeatedly), while other links worked fine. Again, no problem with Chrome. My wife can't get into proxyvote.com with Firefox--again, a blank screen. Where is this weirdness coming from?

Hi Friends.... This morning logged into my website as usual and this message appeared on the home page. I have not checked the link as it seems potentially malicious ... It does not appear when visiting my site on Safari. I have emptied the cache I have been through troupbleshooting mode I have reinstalled Firefox and it still is there..

How to rid myself of this

My yahoo homepage on firefox looks totally different than it did last week. Chrome and edge still look like the home page should but firefox does not. I screen shared with yahoo and they said it was a firefox issue. Anyone know how to make the homepage look like chromes and edge? I added pics from edge and firefox for comparison.

Workflow: I have a firefox instance already running. I want to launch a new firefox in safe-mode to test something without disrupting my existing firefox.

Problem: I try to launch a new firefox in safe mode using `firefox --safe-mode`, but firefox just opens a new window NOT in safe mode.

I think it may because firefox in safe-mode requires launching launching from a new instance rather than attaching to existing instance.

`firefox --help` shows a flag I can use:

--new-instance Open new instance, not a new window in running instance. --safe-mode Disables extensions and themes for this session.

So I run `firefox --safe-mode --new-instance`

now I get error popup with message:

"Firefox is already running, but is not responding. To use Firefox, you must first close the existing Firefox process, restart your device, or use a different profile."

Now I think what is the point of the flag "new-instance" if Firefox doesn't support multiple instances?

Regardless, how can I launch firefox in safe-mode without disrupting my existing firefox instance and without relying on creating a profile just for this?

I have enabled Firefox Sync between my laptop and my Android. When I go to the manage history tab on my laptop, the history of both my laptop and phone is shown but without the device the tab was viewed on. Is there a way to filter history based on which device I viewed on?

Firefox sometimes continuously adds tabs for the same site I am using. Every time I X out of one, another one pops up. This multiplies alarmingly fast. I have Windows 10.

I use a MacBook AIr with OS 14.4.1 (Sonoma) and want to add a short cut link to Proton Mail (Free version) that I can put in my MacOS Dock. I am using Firefox 125.03 version.

I used to have a link in my Mac Dock but then I tried the trial of their desktop app-- and when that ended recently, I did not know how to set the Dock link up again. I tried directions for other browsers but they did not help.

'The link I want the short cut to go to is' https://account.proton.me/mail so I can sign right in to check my email.

So I checked Proton's support site for help but it has directions to do this ONLY from Safari and another browser, NOT Firefox.

If you can give me some straightforward directions to add the shortcut to Proton Mail sign in back to my Mac Dock, I would be grateful!

Hi I am a longtime user of your browser. I have version 124.0.2(64 bit) installed on three devices. First thing I do on opening it is to click on "about", which normally updates the browser, before I do any browsing. In the last three weeks, however, it has not updated on any of the three devices, rather, it says "Failed to check for updates". I have tried the workarounds suggested at your Help center, and nothing has worked. What gives, may I ask? Thank you

I have Windows 11 and Firefox 124.0.2. Firefox keeps asking to reinstall. I think it is because I keep getting the message that it fails to check for updates. I don't know if I have installed the Microsoft Firefox or the direct Mozilla Firefox downloaded. Maybe that is the problem, but I am not tech savvy. I have used Firefox for many years and like it. I am also too old (83) to deal with these problems. Help!

something apparently got corrupted in firefox.. i tried running update and i keep getting failed to update.. i have refreshed.. i have uninstalled and reinstalled ...nothing. i am sure there is a folder or file somewhere that is corrupted and i cannnot find it. because even when i uninstall and reinstall fresh. all my bookmarks are there .. how to i start a TRUE NEW install??

I have been using Firefox as my primary browser for a very long time. Now, every time I start Firefox, I get a message that the update failed, and that I should manually download the update file and run it. I do so, the update appears to work, and Firefox behaves, until I stop it and restart again. Then I get the same message. I looked online - it appears that others have had this problem, but no clear solution. I am not willing to use Edge, but am beginning to wonder if it is time to leave Firefox. WIndows 11 64, AMD processor, 64 GB ram. Connected via ethernet and fiber. NordVPN, and Bitdefender (neither of which has produced any error messages).

About a week ago I started getting these update error messages stating "Update available - Firefox couldn't update automatically. Download the new version". I've also tried clicking "Learn more" on the error message but it's a dead link. Going into the settings for updates I am set to auto update, but when I manually check for updates it says "Failed to check for updates".

The help article on this issue simply tells you to download and manually reinstall Firefox, but I'm having to do this nearly every day. I work in IT myself so I know a "bandaid" workaround when I see one. Is there a solution to this issue?

I have Firefox 124.0.2 running on Windows 11. For some reason, I can't update Firefox. When I manually download the update file, it appears to run Ok, but the version doesn't change. If I go to settings and click on "Check for Updates" is comes back and says Failed to Check for Updates. How do I fix this?

Originally reported on April 11th /questions/1444593: I have Windows 11 and the Firefox 124.0.2 browser. I cannot update to the latest version of Firefox. I receive an error message "Failed to update". I've uninstalled and reinstalled the browser, ran the install utility selecting update, nothing seems to work. Please help
