Firefox does not 'Restore previous session' on startup

more options

Firefox 76.0.1 on Mac OS X 10.15.4.

Simply put, I have the 'Restore previous session' checkbox ticked under Preferences -> General -> Startup, but each time I close and start Firefox, I get a new window. I checked 'browser.startup.page' property in about:config. It is in bold and set to 3. I also verified that it is set to 3 in prefs.json in my profile directory.

This is really hampering my workflow.

EDIT: This post can be deleted. Apparently I'm new to Mac and did not know that clicking the red button will not quit the application. I hate it already.

Yeah, clicking the red button closes the window, but quitting it requires using the menu or command + q. Glad you figured it out.

Also, if you accidentally close the window and want to get it back after quitting, make sure to restore the window first. Either:

  • (menu bar) History > Recently Closed Windows
  • "3-bar" menu button > Library > History > Recently Closed Windows
  • "Library" toolbar button > History > Recently Closed Windows
