I access googlemail using imap. When I delete an email in Thunderbird it doesn't show up in the deleted folder on Thunderbird or the IMAP/Trash folder in Googlemail, it just just disappears.

Under tools/account settings/server settings, the only options for moving deleted emails are to move them to the Inbox or the Deleted folders on Googlemail. There is no option to move them to a local folder like there was in earlier versions of Thunderbird.
