Almost every day i save *.csv files to a directory and sub directories. Before I save those files I set permissions on that folder to allow to SAVE to that folder (actually it is always an oversave of an existing file) ; this is NOT a win xp bug. As a side note I run a program that does the same thing and win never tells me about this problem. This is a Firefox bug

Below is a typical path to the file;

C:\SPORTS FANTASY FOLDER\MLB_2016\bhut_jolokia\County Stadium Secret Sauce League\LS_Peanut Shell Shooters\LS_peanut shell shooters.csv

what can I do before I trash FF forever?!

This is a random bug (as I have sub folders under the 1st 2 folders on my HD)

The easiest solution may be to use some other browser when needing to save these csv files. Alternatively try some workaround, maybe saving the files to some other location and moving them later.

Of course Firefox is the only mainstream and secure browser attempting to still support Windows XP users.

To fix a bug we need some reliable Steps To Reproduce. It is going to be hard to impossible to do that, if this bug is random and infrequent.

You are using an unusual location to save .csv files. A path that starts in the top level of C:\ and is outside the usual userspace.

there is one other issue I got with this unsolvable bug - as I try to over-save that file - FF deletes the original

It is possible that security software (anti-virus, firewall) is causing problems (e.g. keeps a lock on files). Try to disable security software temporarily to see if that makes a difference.

Hate to say it - but I do that when I start this process

Another issue is that FF deletes the existing file that I want to oversave

I got a feeling FF gets confused and tried to save that file over another FF file. It still doesn't explain the deletion of the org file. Its a very true bug - oh well

Thanks for the reply and help(s)

The last point is that I select and re-name an existing file to match the one deleted and FF allows me to "save in that dir of which I shouldn't have no permissions"

The last used directory for the website (host) serving the file for download will be preselected in the file picker. If no download directory for the current website (host) has been stored, browser.download.lastDir will be used. You can disable the feature to remember a host based download directory by creating a new Boolean pref on the about:config page with the name browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite pref and set its value to false.

on the about:config page You can delete the content-prefs.sqlite file in the Profile Folder to only remove settings stored in this file. That way you keep exceptions stored in permissions.sqlite that would get lost if you clear the "Site Preferences" via Clear Recent History.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

So is my feeling of what happens correct? Is it trying to save my requested file over a file that FF has control over and then deletes the pre-oversaved file?

Your response is confusing but in a way it makes sense

The last thing I want to do is clear my history ; that wipes out all pre-set paths to all 92 dirs that I work with
