Upgrading from 45 to 46 disables toolbar, extensions

I installed Firefox 46. Basic functions worked okay, but I lost my customized toolbar and extensions, and was unable to get any of that working again. I also lost the previous session tabs and the Bookmarks Toolbar, and could not save preferences.

Then I tried re-installing Firefox 45 and now it works perfectly again. I am on MacOSX 10.6.8. Perhaps anyone with an old OS should worry about this Firefox 46 "upgrade".

Maybe switch to the Firefox 45.1.0esr version instead.
