I had my computer guru clear my macbook of all viruses, install new protection, etc. I still have playpopads when I launch Firefox. This randomly takes words, turns them blue, double underlines them and when you roll the cursor over, ads pop up. I do not have this problem when I launch the same pages in Safari or Chrome. I'd rather continue to use Firefox, though. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Did your guru check for any suspicious extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Command+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then cast a critical eye over the list on the right and, if in doubt, disable (or remove). These are all optional, no extensions come with Firefox.

Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

Does that help tame the annoying in-text ads?

Some websites use scripts that embed those ads themselves. To strip those, you probably need to use an ad-blocking add-on. These are some popular ones you could check out (you only need one to be running at a time, though):

I updated my add-ons, diabled 2 and added the adblock plus. Appears to be fixed! Thank you so much!
