I can't sign in and need to get a new account. How?

I solved my problem by getting far enough that it asked me to set up an account. I did, now I can forget the old account. Something was messed up so that no matter how many times I changed the password, once it said I could sign in it popped back to a screen asking for a valid password. To be clear, I got 3 confirmations on 3 different passwords. None worked. So I went to this forum and asked this question, kept clicking that nothing solved my problem, and FINALLY got to a screen where I could set up an account. It's one of those circular problems, I guess. Now if I can just log out and back in...

annBrun again: With this new account, I was able to sign back in. Yay!!!

Why did this annoying mess happen? I'm guessing, but my old account was very, very old. I originally had a very short password, so the last time I tried to sign in, Mozilla made me change it to a longer, modern password. Then I didn't sign in for several months, and when I tried today, nothing could get me into that account. Maybe that password change really didn't completely work. Whatever, the account was messed up.

Anyhow, at that point, I wish there had been an easier, "cleaner" way to just trash the corrupted account and register a new one.

Sorry you had to go thru this! That's definitely crazy. There may be a issue with the site regarding passwords. I'll investigate to see if anyone else has complained. You also said you had another account. What was the username for it? We can take a look at it and see if we can learn anything from it.

You're definitely right about the longer password change too. I wonder if that was the problem.
