I keep receiving the "Firefox cannot be loaded. Your profile may be missing or inaccessible." I have gone into profile manager, created a new profile, and gotten it to load. The next time I start Firefox, the same thing happens. Every time. I have even tried creating a profile and putting it in a different folder. Please help! Is there a permanent fix for this error?

I am running OS X Yosemite 10.10.5

Did you check the permissions of the profiles.ini file and does the profiles.ini files gets created?

If the new profile that you created in the Profile Manager isn't registered in the profiles.ini file then you keep having this issue.

You should find the profiles.ini file in this hidden location:

  • Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\
    *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\
  • Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
  • Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/

If deleting the profiles.ini file isn't working then also check the location of the cache files.

  • Windows: *C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\
  • Mac: ~/Library/Caches/Firefox/Profiles/
  • Linux:~/.cache/mozilla/firefox/

On Mac ~/Library is a hidden folder.
