i clicked on update but it still says to update, what now?
i was trying to open something in adobe flash and it said i needed to update. Clicked on the lines above and saw several items needed to be updated. I clicked on each one but it only went to step 2, where is step 3 and how do i know they have all been installed and updated properly?

follow the steps tools|add-ons|Plugins| shockwave flashplayer. there link on update now. Your Flash will surely get updated. IF the problem remains please read the article https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/keep-flash-up-to-date-and-troubleshoot-problems

Flash plugin
Adobe released an update last week from version18.0.0.203 to 18.0.0.209. You can get that on this page:
https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
In the first table, look for the row for "plugin-based browsers" and you can use either the EXE or the MSI installer.
To ensure the installer can remove the old version, please close any tab using Flash, or exit out of Firefox while doing the update.
Adobe Acrobat (PDF) plugin
If you have Adobe Reader XI (11), you can't update the plugin from the main Adobe download page. You can use either of these methods:
(1) In Adobe Reader, use Help > Check for Updates
(2) Get the update installer from the latest release note for Adobe Reader 11 on this page: https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/release-note/release-notes-acrobat-reader.html#Acrobat%20and%20Reader%20XI%20release%20notes
