It is possible to unpin them by clicking on the pin icon. However it is also possible to turn off the tiles in the about:newtab page with these instructions: Customize your Firefox New Tab page

- Go to the three dot menu, tap on Settings, then tap on Customize, then Home.
- From the Panels, tap on each one you would like to hide or show on your home screen.
