No matter what I do, my start page keeps reverting back to a previous one
This is crazy. My homepage was my.yahoo.com but the recently closed it down and I have been trying to change it to MSN. No matter what i set in the options page it kept going back to yahoo.
So I uninstalled it with the option to delete ALL data and I downloaded and reinstalled the latest version. Also my PC is free from malware and the entire OS was a same-day fresh install and I have AV and anti-malware installed as well.
After the first day og using the browser it has again somehow reverted back to my.yahoo as the home page. How is this possible - particularly after working just fine for the first day? I have never had problems like I am having with Firefox these days.
Thanks for any help

Which security software (firewall, anti-virus) do you have?
Some security software has virtualization or sandbox features that may cause problems by protecting and restoring files in the Firefox profile folder.
If you have software like Advanced SystemCare that might reset some files to older versions to protect these files against changes then check the settings or uninstall this software.
If you have the Yahoo toolbar installed, this may occur. This may also be caused by another add-on/toolbar. Pleas follow these steps:
- At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button (Tools menu in Windows XP), and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
- In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
- Select the toolbar you wish to remove.
- Click the remove button.
- Click "Restart now" if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.
For further information, please read Remove a toolbar that has taken over your Firefox search or home page.
Did this fix the problem? Please let us know!
I run Avast AV software and yes I do have ASC. I will check the settings on these, thanks.
No, I don't have that or any toolbar installed. Thanks
You can try to manually change the homepage by doing the following:
- Go to
about:configin your browser - Locate the
startup.homepage_welcome_urlstring - Change the value to the URL of your desired homepage
Does this fix your homepage.
If the above does not fix the issue, install the Search Reset Tool. This will reset your homepage and some other settings to their default.
