Note: If this problem affects the Screenshot feature, a separate hidden setting was recently added for those.

For regular downloads, the box on the Settings page should work for your automatic downloads. If the problem is with the "Always ask you where to save files" feature, you get a Windows Save As dialog and it always starts in Downloads, hmm, it should start in your last-used folder (for the specific site or maybe for any site).

thanks for answering...for what i see,its only for the screenshot....my firefox is updated, but it still has that issue,i dont know how to get to that hidden setting you talk about....i hope they do something about it...i also have an issue with the bookmasks ,which always disappear with the first time i open Firefox, then i close it once again to get them working again...and also with the "complete" feature...i have to write completely the url to get anywhere, even those pages i visit in a daily basis...it also gets back, after i close it the first time, and reopen it....

The two symptoms together imply that Firefox doesn't have access to the Places database file (places.sqlite) on the first startup, so it can't properly access bookmarks or history. But I don't know why it would consistently behave that way.

thanks again for answering....its been doing that about 3 weeks now,and its sad,its one of the features that i most use,bookmarks....i have to use Chrome,to keep them, but its getting me tired of switching for another browser...im thinking to switch once and for all to Chrome, which i dont like much, but at least i dont have those problems...

Just in case there is some spyware monitoring your history by perusing the Places database, you may want to do some supplemental malware scans. The following article lists tools other Firefox users have found helpful: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.

yes,i had scanned several times just to check if it solve the problem, but no malware found...i tried that since firefox began to have those issues...ill wait for another big update of firefox,if the problem continues,i will dump it...ive beeing using "Fifo" (as many of us call it) since its beginnings and its the first time im thinking to drop it...we will see if in the next update, the problem persist..
