Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?
I installed and setup Thunderbird on my home system and now am trying to get it setup on my work machine. Different network, diff PC, same OS. I verified credentials on web mail (msn.com) and all is good. But I keep getting the same error message in setting up a new email account. "Configuration could not be verified - is the username or password wrong?" I did some searching and tried some different scenarios. I will have to get with our network team but it seems that there are some ACL (Access Control Lists) in place that are not allowing Thunderbird to create/connect even though I can connect using Outlook 2010 and 2013 and web mail. However, it worked fine when I connected my work PC to the guest wireless network. So something the network security team has in place is what is causing the issue...at least for me. However, it seems that even after setup, if I return to the regular network, Thunderbird will not connect to the email server: imap-mail.outlook.com So...odd that in one app it won't work but it will in others.
Thoughts?

Talk to your IT folks. When connected to your office LAN Thunderbird cannot reach the server, probably due to some sort of proxy. With guest WLAN you do get transparent Internet access.
