The padlock indicates a secure connection to the server. This is what you want. It has got nothing to do with Win10.

ThunderBird supports Windows 10. Do you updated the latest version of Thunderbird? If Yes then It might be a driver compatibility issue. See if the same problem occurs in "windows safe mode with networking". That uses generic drivers. I'm suggesting this for troubleshooting, not as a workaround.
