Thunderbid stopped working, and Orange say its on 587 and should be 110 ? can you help please
I have not been able to get emails into my account since late on the 3rd September. I rang Orange and they said they had problems and to wait, so I waited. But nothing. I rang today and had an hour on the phone with someone who came in remotely to my laptop and he said that it was Thunderbird that was the problem. Means nothing to me, except he said to tell you that it is showing 587 and should be showing 110 ! ? There was no provision to change it he said and suggested I contact yourselves. Please can you help. Sue

Such disappointing and poor advice. Of course it can be changed.
You say you can't "get" messages? If you're being told that you need 110 then this account uses POP, which is a system for your incoming email.
Select this account in the left hand narrow pane. You should see an option in the right hand window to go to its settings. Alternatively, right click the account in the left hand pane and select settings from the pop-up menu. Now you'll be shown the Account Settings window, and under Server Settings you'll see a box labeled "port" which allegedly has 587 in it. (How on earth did it get set to 587? This number is used for sending mail, not getting it!) You can just type the 110 in over what is there. Come back and tell us if it doesn't say 587 because that would suggest your helpdesk person was a real numpty and didn't know where to look.
I suspect he was looking at outgoing settings, where indeed they are summarised in a table and don't let you change them directly. But there is a very obvious button labelled "Edit", so it's alarming that you were told it couldn't be changed. However, changing outgoing settings wouldn't help with your lack of incoming mail.
Has this account worked before? Are there a lot of messages already in this account? If not, it might be quickest just to delete this account, set it up again and let Thunderbird find all the right settings for itself.
