graphical errors
I'm getting these graphical glitches that cover up text and images and the only way to get rid of them is to either change the focus so that Firefox is no longer the main focus or hover over the text or simply scroll up or down. This sometimes work, but most of the time doesn't and this only happens when I am on the web using Firefox. I've reinstalled my video drivers and even updated them when a new version came out hoping it would go away, but it hasn't. I took a screenshot that you can look at at http://home.comcast.net/~rubberpix/glitches.jpg. The glitches usually start on the right hand side and can be either the same color as the background (or close to it), like in the picture, or they can be black. I remember a while back that there was a forum entry somewhere that, as long as the 'hot topic' image was displayed next to the topic, it would continue to increase the amount of black 'bars' or 'spots' that would show up. Eventually the screen would be mostly unreadable. Unfortunately I don't remember which forum that was or I'd save the web page so you could check it out. This problem doesn't just occur on forums, it also happens on regular web pages, it just has an increased chance of showing up there.
Please help me, this is SO annoying and has been plaguing me for many months.

Probably very obvious but did you disable the "use acceleration hardware when available" in Firefox? And are these artefacts only with Firefox? I've seen these artefacts a few times before but that was always with graphic cards on their way to become defective ...

Hi andy, Did u try to reinstall firefox ?
You know what's funny? That's probably the ONLY thing I didn't do. I had updated Firefox from a much older version to the newest when I realized the Check for Updates button wasn't working. I think I was on version 12 or so when I finally updated to 22 and since then have done the automatic updates, but I never actually uninstalled Firefox. I'll give that a try in a little bit once I back up all my bookmarks and stuff. Thanks :)

Scratch that, I just read uninstalling won't hurt it. I'm going to bookmark what tabs I have opened just in case and then uninstall Firefox.

I just bookmarked all my tabs and cut my 6 groups of tabs down to 1 and the minimum tabs present. Then uninstalled Firefox and then reinstalled it right after. Still the same problem.

Do you have the the "Use Hardware acceleration when available" checked in Options -->Advanced -->General?
Well, turning off the use hardware acceleration did the trick, but I still don't understand how it just started doing it one day for no apparent reason, but maybe it started when I replaced some components in my computer earlier this year.
Just an FYI, my video card is a little over a year old and is powering through everything else without fail so I'm fairly confident it wasn't a problem with that.
