I scanned a variety of images and tried to e-mail them. The person responded and said she could not open them as jpeg items. How do I change them to something she can open? She suggested pdf or aif.

I am sorry to say that this question is not related to Firefox. But one this I recommend is upgrading to Firefox 6.0 for security and performance updates.
