When i try to login to places that need a username and password, it used to save the information but now it doesnt even if i tell the site to remember me?

When i first got Firefox the thing i liked about it was it saved my passwords and meant i didnt have to keep writing them in. but now something has changed, it doesnt save the username and passwords even from closing one window done and opening another.

An old or missing plugin might be the cause. Please do the following.

Update Flash via http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/

Update Shockwave for Director via http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/

Install Java via http://www.java.com/en/

You could consider installing this add-on: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/master-password/

Hi, go to Tools -- Option -- Security. Check "Remember passwords" (if it is not checked anymore)

Make sure that you not run Firefox in (permanent) Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Tools > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Tools > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Uncheck: [ ] "Permanent Private Browsing mode"

You can use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

Thank you for your feedback, i have checked the "Remember Passwords", I have also tried to update the plugins and have checked to see that it isnt running in Permanent Private Browsing (which it isnt), it still continues to reset. Could the problem have to do with Holding down 'ctrl, shift and pressing 'w'? if so how do i turn this off, whatever it was?!

CTRL+SHIFT+W merely closes the browser. See Keyboard Shortcuts

Did you try installing the add-on I suggested?

Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.

  • Create an allow cookie exception (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions) to keep such a cookie, especially for secure websites and if cookies expire when Firefox is closed.
  • In Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode all cookies are session cookies that expire if that session is ended, so websites won't remember you.

Clearing "Site Preferences" clears all exceptions for cookies, images, pop-up windows, software installation, and passwords.
