Thunderbird running slow with gmail

My Thunderbird connected to my gmail is running slow. Thunderbird is not running slow on my other (non-gmail) account. It takes 10-15 seconds for an e-mail (from gmail) to be deleted or moved within Thunderbird. I have tried "compacting folders" and "repairing folders" and that does not help. Please help!

is you other account POP and the Gmail one IMAP perhaps?
