I guess you have an antivirus other that the default windows defender.

I guess you have an antivirus other that the default windows defender.
Disable it. It has a long and chequered history of loosing the plot whenever Thunderbird updates, or just not being configured correctly to use encrypted communications to send mail. So I have a strong feeling no Norton will mean no problem.
