TB v96.6.1 opensuse (lunix) tumbleweed

My write-email is set for plain text. Often , when pasting content from a console window, the way the message ultimately appears is NOT shown. I only discover the unexpected formatting when I view the sent mail.

[ An example ]----

== What I paste and is displayed while composing: Failregex: 1 total |- #) [# of hits] regular expression | 1) [1] ^<HOST> .*$ `-

== How it is received: Failregex: 1 total

|- #) [# of hits] regular expression

| 1) [1] ^<HOST> .*$

`-

[ end ]----

I have looked at the characters of the newline: It is a single unix-style linefeed, as one would expect. Why does this get expanded to two newlines while being mailed?

Is there a setting somewhere that prevents this?

Do you see the two newlines by using Paste Without Formatting, Ctrl+Shift+V?

"Paste Without Formatting" is not an option. Apparently it is "pure text."

Correct, Paste Without Formatting isn't available in the plain text composer. But I don't know why the extra lines are added.
