HI,

it's a problem that's been around for years, yet i never got an appropriate answer, so i'm asking here:

The longer i keep Firefox running, the slower my whole system gets and the slower firefox itself gets - up to a point (generally like about 10 hours or so) where everything becomes so slow, i have to manually shut down Firefox via the Task Manager. All that seems to be independent from the fact whether i actually do something in Firefox or not.

So i don't know what Firefox actually does while i'm away that kills my whole system, but i'd really like to know and i appreciate any help!!!

THX in advance

Hey there,

ok, thank you very much for your answer. It helps temporarily, but doesn't resolve the problem: Deleting cache and stuff i've known that for like since i was a child, playing on my 406.

It's not a new issue. It's been like 10 years or something. Firefox slows your system down to a halt. And it sucks. So no more deleting cache answers and such shit if you please. It's just like you got Firefox, you got virus... which does, i don't know what.

Could you please run a tool from http://memtest.org/
in order to check the integrity of your RAM?

You will need a thumb or disk drive to install it on.

Do you let Windows handle the page file or did you set a fixed size ?
If you use a fixed size for the page file then try the former and let Windows handle the page file.

Don't you ever restart Firefox when is starts slowing down? And long before you end up using the Task Manager to kill the firefox.exe processes.

I have been assembling my own desktop PC's for 20 years now (before that 16 years upgrading what I was using, with ~ 8 years between new already assembled PC's), and lately my builds (every 6 to 8 years) have included motherboards that were at or near their run of being the "latest" version; usually close to 3 years behind the curve from when I assembled them. From time to time I have had similar problems as you described. Buy a new one OR "make-do" and compensate?

How much memory is Firefox using when this happens ?

How much physical memory do you have installed ?

You can check the Firefox Task Manager (about:performance) and about:memory pages.

"How much memory is Firefox using when this happens ?" Take your pick from between 84 to 98% according to task manager

Hey, i am really getting tired of this. Ever since Firefox exists, it has been slowing down systems. Doing i don't know what, collecting data to transmit to Google on what i'd like to buy or stuff like that. I can't be the only one, i've had this problem on 3 PCs in 10 years, always the same shit, and i'm not gonna buy a new PC just for that. So someone plz. tell me what to do - quitting on Firefox is an option.
