firefox download manager is not working properly
for the past month or so, maybe a bit longer, when i try to download a file firefox sends it to the download manager before i get a chance to name it. so the file doesn't get downloaded. i have to go into the manager and restart all the downloads i sent to it. but then, it doesn't save them where i told it, they just go to the temp directory. as i said, this just started a month or two ago and i have been cripping it along this way, but it's a real pain. anybody else see this?

That is not normal behavior. You would at least have to press the Enter key or maybe the Space key to activate a button.
I assume that you have selected the 'always ask' setting in "Options/Preferences -> General"?
Do you get an open with dialog or file picker window?
Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions ("3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
- switch to the DEFAULT theme: "3-bar" menu button or Tools -> Add-ons -> Appearance
- do NOT click the "Refresh Firefox" button on the Safe Mode start window
in firefox safe mode it reacts in exactly the same way. i click "save link as", i immediately see the little download arrow animation go to the download manager on the menu bar. it shows a yellow circle signifying a problem. then the "where do you want to save it" window opens. (interestingly, this window opens whether i am set to pick a location, or default to downloads.)
i then tell firefox where to save the file. nothing happens. i have to go to the download manager and retry the download, sometimes several times. when it finally saves the file, it goes to the C:\Users\[my user name]\AppData\Local\Temp directory.
perhaps i'll just back up my settings, delete firefox and start with a fresh download. i'm on about two years of downloaded upgrades at the moment.
