How do I get the search feature when I right click?

I just recently ran an update. Now I do not have the "search" feature when I right click. I used this extensively, and would really like the option back. I had to uninstall some things when I ran the update, because I didn't want the search engine or toolbar that automatically installed with the update. How do I get my right click search feature back?

You aren't even on the most up to date version of Firefox, and any "You Won" ads are not coming from Firefox, they are malware or website ads. Please do the following:

Update Firefox to the latest release

Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware

Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings

Please update to Firefox 22 before doing anything else Update Firefox to the latest release

The search feature where you select text in the page, then right-click, and choose Search Google for "the selected text"? That should still be there.

If it was a different feature, can you describe what you remember about it in more detail?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Nope. Didn't work. Any way I can undo the upgrade?

Not on my work website anymore. Here's a screen shot. I used to have "search google" and now I don't. Any ideas on how to customize the right click list?

My guess is that Firefox isn't recognizing that as a Search field on that page.

Is there public access to that specific webpage?

If not, are you able to View Page Source and look at the coding of that text box?

The screenshot shows that you right-click an input field and that Firefox offers to add this web page to your search engines (Add a keyword...).

You can't do a search for selected text in a text area or input field.
You should get that choice if you select text on the website.

The problem is that I've been able to do it in the past. I've been able to select any word and right click a search. Ever since I upgraded it, it's all messed up. I can't right click search, and I keep getting these stupid "You've won" websites popping up. Any suggestions on undoing the upgrade, and going back to the way things were?

I used the restore point from when I ran the supposed upgrade. It wasn't an upgrade, it was a disaster. I suggest not running "upgrades" from things that pop-up, and you don't know what they are. They are malicious, and harmful to your computer. Nobody helped me here with my problem. I took actions and figured it out myself.

Hi abweist, it could help others who run into this problem if you could report back on what caused you to lose the right-click>search feature.
