Firefox will only run in the safe mode. Even if i disable all the add on's it hangs up

The drop down menu bars will not go away. I can get it to advance by continually selecting a different menu item. I can not type in the search bar. It works fine in the safe mode. I need my Norton password vault. I've uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. on help. I uninstalled and reinstalled Java no help. Out of ideas.

Hello,

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

  1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
  2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
  3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
  4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

When you say "the drop down menu bars will not go away" it makes me think of the strange screen artifacts that can be left behind when Firefox is not compatible with your graphic card drivers.

Could you try disabling hardware graphics acceleration? This is one of the feature disabled in Safe Mode, and you can manually disable it in normal mode.

You usually need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

If you restart Firefox, is the issue resolved (or at least improved)?

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled
  • the default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored
  • the default toolbar layout is used (localstore-safe.rdf)
  • the Javascript JIT compiler is disabled
  • hardware acceleration is disabled
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected
