Tricked by "SHOP" popup when making a purchase using Firefox

david.tappin

I was making a purchase with a new company in the UK, in the checkout a popup "SHOP" opened claiming to check it was me by sending a code to my phone which I then entered thinking it was from the company I was buying from. The popup then entered my details, from a purchase in a another company in New Zealand into the form including a NZ delivery address . I deleted this but the account was created with the wrong name .

I have phoned the company they say that they do not use any popups and the problem must be in the Firefox browser, how do I find this popup software and disable it.

You'd have to consult your history entries for any site location open at the time of the purchase and coming from a host you don't think is legitimately linked to the vendors or the payment methods you have used.

I understand what you might have encountered was a payment flow from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shop_Pay that operate the platform of the ecommerce site?

Thank you for the reply, I think your note about the Shop_Pay is correct and appeared as SHOP in the pop-up. I can not identify which site may have been related to the incident but whilst annoying does not seem harmful.

If you had the popup open in normal browsing session you can consult your History library Browsing history in Firefox - View the websites you have visited and see which hosts were involved in the transaction around the date/time of the visit to the merchant's site — to spot any third parties from their host names, most likely different from the store itself.
