Bookmark Sync not working

I upgraded to Windows 11 yesterday. I have always been logged in to Firefox with my email, so I thought the bookmarks will come back once I log in on the new windows, but that didn't happen. Some of these bookmarks are work related, so they're fairly important.

Although I'm using the same email, my profile picture is gone too—replaced with a default one. (Not AI generated sentence. I just like using Em dashes)

What could have happened and what can I do to get my bookmarks back? I appreciate any suggestion you can give me.

Please check out Recover lost or missing Bookmarks (especially the "My bookmarks have disappeared" section).

Not sure what happened to your Mozilla account... Can you see any of your personal info on https://accounts.firefox.com/ (email, password creation date, connected services)?

Thank you for answering. I checked out the "My bookmarks have disappeared" section and followed the instructions there. But I don't see any of the backups in the Backups library's Import function. I obviously don't have a folder where they are kept, as I reinstalled windows yesterday.

I have always used the same email for everything that needs logging in, but my account in this new Firefox doesn't look the same. My profile picture and display name, which were present in the browser before windows re installation, are missing. It just look like a new account without any information whatsoever.

I can find the connected devices, however. But I can't do anything with that except sign out from them, which I doubt can help me with this.

Thank you for your question about the Firefox Sync service.

It appears from your question, that you are using Firefox Sync as a back up service. This is not what Sync is designed to do. The Firefox Sync service takes a copy of the data you wish to include and transfers it to a second device (typically a mobile device such as a tablet or a telephone) running a copy of Firefox. The storage in between all attached devices is both temporary and fragile and is not stable enough to be (and is not designed as) a reliable backup service.

If you have a copy of your Firefox profile for desktop Firefox, you may be able to recover your bookmarks and other data. Please have a read of this article.

If you have a copy of your data on a mobile version of Firefox, please follow these instructions to connect it to Firefox Sync to copy your data.
