Hello all,

I am using the latest Firefox on a Windows 7 32 bit machine.

Unfortunately Firefox has been running very unstable for the last couple of weeks. Below I describe some of the problems:-

-Hanging momentarily ie. cannot click on links - Getting black patches on pages - Pages suddenly started to flash quickly

Things I have done to alleviate the problem

- Have refreshed and reset to default settings. - Have disable hardware acceleration in options - Have uninstalled graphics card driver (ATI), removed card completely and been running with embedded Intel graphics.

Unfortunately none of the above have solved the problem. Please also note I have a couple of addons installed but been running the same configuration on a 64 bit Windows 7 machine and everything works ok.

Willing to send crash reports, I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help.

Kind regards,

Kyprianos

Just to be sure, you installed the 32bit Firefox version from; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link}

Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} by holding down the <Shift> (Mac=Options) key, and then starting Firefox.

A small dialog should appear. Click Start In Safe Mode (not Refresh). Is the problem still there?

While still in Safe Mode,

In the address bar, type about:crashes<enter>. Note: If any reports do not have BP- in front of the numbers/letters, click it to submit them.

The crash report is several pages of data. We need the report numbers to see the whole report.

Using your mouse, mark the most recent 7 - 10 crash reports, and copy them. Now go to the reply box and paste them in.

Dear FredMcD,

Thanks for offering to help. Pretty sure I downloaded the 32-bit version when I check Help -> About Firefox I am getting 59.0.2 (32-bit) so it must be ok I guess...

The attached image shows which crash reports I have submitted. If you need more please let me know.

In the meantime I will try safe mode and let you know how it goes.

Thanks once more for your help!

Hello thanks very much for your guidance once more,

Some questions prior to re-installing:

1) Indeed I have Norton Internet Security installed, it appears it inteferes with Firefox, so do I have to uninstall Norton?

2) The Nvidia D3D .dll is it related to gfx card drivers cause I am running off the embedded gfx card now (Intel), I have an ATI card which is currently removed from the system. no Nvidia hardware here.

3) In c:\program files\... I also have a folder called Mozilla Maintenance Service do I remove that too?

I will report after re-installation please answer the above questions if possible. Thanks!!

As a test, you can disable it. You should address your questions about Norton to https://support.norton.com

I don't know much about card drivers. Sorry.

3) In c:\program files\... I also have a folder called Mozilla Maintenance Service do I remove that too?

Yes.

Hello again. This is what I have done so far:-

1) Norton had a complete removal tool, I used this to remove the installation of Norton Internet Security. Will be running without it for a few days to check how Firefox performs

2) I downloaded 32 bit of latest Firefox from web link you gave me.

3) I went to c:\program files\... and remove 2 Mozilla folders. I did not touch any profile folders.

4) I rebooted pc and installed downloaded Firefox from step no.2

The part about the registry I did not understand, can I do it now and if no do I have to re-install and install again?

I will also re install the ATI gfx card in my system to check Firefox stability.

Any other instructions you can provide or do I have to monitor Firefox for any new crashes and then report back?

Thanks once more for your help throughtout! :-)

A registry scanner goes thru the computer's registry, removing any bad entries. Some say it is not needed.

Have you contacted Norton about your issues? Don't be without protection for too long. There are many 'bad websites' out there.

Hello,

So I guess the registry scanner step was not mandatory.

You' re right I shoudn't be running without protection, I will contact Symantec about the issue.

But the problem is that today I got 3 tab crashes so I guess something is still wrong. Here's my current setup

1) Reinstalled Firefox 32 bit with keeping profile 2) Removed Norton completely and now running without any a/v software 3) Still running with the embedded Intel gfx card, I checked and the latest drivers are installed.

Please submit those two reports and post the bp- numbers here.

Yes. When the reports are created, the numbers are just a bunch of letters/numbers. Once the report has been submitted to the Mozilla servers, they are changed into new numbers with bp-
