Why does thunderbird freeze when my PC wakes from sleep mode?

I am running Win7 Home Premium on a Dell PC with an Intel i3 chip, and using TB Portable, upgraded to what I believe is the latest version of TB (24.5.0). For several years, I have successfully run TB Portable from a Seagate portable HDD with hardly a problem. I recently replaced the Seagate with a WD Passport Ultra, and copied over the TB files (including the profile) from the Seagate to the WD drive. The problem is that when my PC wakes from sleep mode (which I have long used to save power), TB will hang (it says "not responding" at the top of the window) and I can't get it to do anything unless I force-close it. This never happened with the Seagate drive, and I have tried it on two different computers (home and work) with identical results: TB hangs on the WD drive, and does not hang on the Seagate. I realize I could just keep the Seagate, but it's over 5 years old and quite a bit slower and lower-capacity than the WD, which I otherwise like.

obviously you are encountering differences in proprietary code in the two devices, I suggest you use another latter Seageate and see if it's code works still. Alternatively ask someone at Western Digital why their drives cause this.

But given your using portable edition (Which is not released by Mozilla) and the issue on that only occurs on some proprietary external drives. There is nothing here.

The folk at portable app have a support forum, perhaps they are across the vagarities of firmware and code in the two different enclosures and drives.
