I am using v. 91.9.1 of Thunderbird e-mail

I have been running 4 e-mail addresses, all with BT.

This last week 2 of those addresses have stopped sending outward messages although I haven't changed anything in Thunderbird or BT.

The other 2 addresses work for both in & outgoing mail.

On the failed outgoing mail I get the following message:- "Sending of the message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.btinternet.com. Please check the password and verify the 'Authentication method' in 'Account Settings | Outgoing server (SMTP)'." BT says they can't help. The problem is with Thunderbird??

I've been using Thunderbird for a number of years. I recently went back to using Windows from Linux, and am having difficulty with the Windows version of Thunderbird. The issue is when I go to set up my gmail accounts, I get a box popping up that should show my google account so I log in through there, but it hangs and never moves past. The pics below shows both the window that pops up that never changes and the server settings.

I've let it sit for up to an hour but nothing changes.

I've looked and haven't seen this question elsewhere, so I figure it must be something on my end. I'm using Thunderber 91.9.1 on Windows 11 Home OS build 22000.675. I'm not using any sort of VPN, and I've tried with Windows firewall both on and off, no changes.

I have a lot of issues with my mailbox. Constantly have to repair folders because the wrong subject shows on the wrong email. A big one I had was my inbox getting bogged down, but I learned it doesn't like to have more than a couple thousand emails in it. I kept getting a "exceeded maximum number of connections" error but read something about too many folders, got rid of a few folders and that error went away.

1) What other kinds of tips are there for keeping TB behaving well? 2) I see that my profile has a lot of old files for old folders that don't exist anymore. There's also nstmp files and foldercache.json files. Should I delete all these types of things to clean up? Or should I just start fresh with a new profile and re-download all my email messages? I can't imagine how long that will take because sometimes folders download quickly but other times take forever and I'm not sure the difference. I just downloaded a 4000 email folder in a 20th the time of another 2000 email folder.

Hi I have my email on my server with my hosting company for various sites. Nothing has changed on this set up for years and now in the last week I am getting the message "connection to server "my site" has timed out." but only for the two emails associated with this one particular site. I deleted the smtp, deleted the incoming settings, added back, same error. The email is working fine on my other devices and the emails for the other sites are all working fine on thunderbird, too. Thunderbird is up to date. Any ideas?

Thunderbird non si apre più, da 5 giorni. Ho notato che il computer ha rallentato moltissimo tutte le attività e, dopo il riavvio perchè bloccato, Thunderbird non si apre più. Non compare neanche la schermata iniziale; ho provato con il tasto shift ed il tasto destro del mouse ad avviarlo come "amministratore", poi ad aprire la rubrica ed ho controllato tutto quanto possibile per le mie (scarse) conoscenze informatiche. La casella mail, sul server, funziona perfettamente; ma senza thunderbird non posso aprire l'archivio "storico", con centinaia di messaggi e continuare sul solo server è estremamente complicato. Ho provato anche a cliccare sull'icona da "start" (win10 a 64 bit), ma è lo stesso, nessuna reazione, nessun caricamento, come se non esistesse. Non so come fare, grazie

There are corrupt inbox sub-folders on our Rackspace account. Thunderbird will not 'get messages' and throws a 'SERVERBUG' error. Then proceeds to tell me to look at the server logs. Right! Rackspace is going to let me look at their server logs.

Anyway, Rackspace says this is a known Thunderbird bug. The 'SERVERBUG' error message is being generated by Thunderbird and there are no server log error messages.

FWIW Apple iPhone native mail client and Rackspace Apps web client also fail to open the corrupted folders. Only iPhone and Thunderbird generate consistent error messages.

Anybody got an idea what is going on here? I'd really like to check our mail.

I have asked this question before with a different subject title, and I am surprised there is no move to fix it. It is an annoyance that I expect effects many. So I am trying again with a new title and more explanation.

I have attached 3 images, showing a) how I have my folders layed out, b) viewing a group of my folders including my local folders, and c) the change in view after I rename one of the observed folders called "Amick." Instead of the view staying the same, so that I can see the name-changed folder in the folder structure, it reverts to the top of the structure showing all the favorites followed by the local folders.

What I would like to have happen is for there to be NO CHANGE in the view after I change the name of a folder or delete a folder, so that I can see what I have accomplished and continue working. As it is now, it is a big nuisance the time waster. Am I missing something that I can do to solve this problem, like some advanced setting?

Good morning, I am having problems logging in to thunderbird, I have had this account for at least 7 years, and now, I am unable to log in, the system states that either the password, user id, or what have you is not valid; I have not been able to receive mail since late 2021; I removed my account, less data went to reinstall the app, my inbox is gone, I have no mail, though I see the mail in folders; please help me to rectify this matter. Cannot drag emails to folders after update

After theThunderbird update yesterday (24 May) I can no longer drag emails to sort them in to folders. I've spent all morning trying to fix it. Things I've tried from advice in other support threads:

  • Creating a new profile
  • Operating in trouble shoot mode
  • Rolling back to a previous version - could only do this with a beta version. Problem persisted.
  • Uninstalling, deleting all data and reinstalling (creating new profiles from scratch and waiting until all server messages are fully loaded)
  • Rebooting
  • Clearing computer cache

Note I have no add ons at all, I'm on Windows PC that is up to date and have now turned off auto updates in thunderbird. It is still possible to sort them by right clicking the message, but this isn't workable as I have to go through 4 submenus to sort each one.

Any help would be really appreciated as I'm afraid I've exhausted all published advice. I may have to ditch it tomorrow which would be a shame as I've used Thunderbird for a decade with no issues. I use this function multiple times daily to keep my email tidy as I use my inbox as a to-do list. I was able to do it yesterday and I can see from the update list that the last update was last night so conclude it must be that causing it as the last windows update was a few days ago.

Sending of message failed. Unable to authenticate to Outgoing server (SMTP) smtp.kingharald.co.uk. Emails work ok for a while, then I get a few days of this error message and then it seems to fix itself. It's not working just now. How do I fix this?

My Sent folder has disappeared. How do I get access to it again?

While browsing e-mails, e-mails open and when the e-mail has no photo attachments, the program behaves normally, the messages are loaded quickly. When the message includes attachments in the form of photos, various jpg, png formats, the program hangs for a moment, about 10 - 25 seconds, it happens only in the case of e-mails containing photos. I have 4 computers with the same configurations, with the same program, the same configuration, the same windows 10, the settings are the same on all computers, the same account type (POP3), the same e-mail end, and stranger the problem occurs on 2 computers and on the other 2 no, on the other 2 they have the same email with the photo message, the email is loaded very quickly, on the other 2 you have to wait as I wrote above until they are buffered, and the other 2 computers open the message preview in the same way, I couldn't find anything about it in the help, please help.

Hello, all.

Ever since I upgraded Thunderbird to 91.9.0 (64-bit), it has been freezing consistently and repeatedly - upon startup, and every 30 minutes, it freezes for approximately 5 minutes and 40 seconds. Then it unfreezes and works fine. But then 24 minutes and 20 seconds later, it freezes once again, going "Not Responding" in Windows 10.

When it freezes, Thunderbird uses 12-16% of my CPU, and memory usage steadily climbs, going up 0.1-0.2Mb each second, and goes back down to normal on the unfreeze.

Now, what have I done? It still happens in Troubleshooting mode. It happens in Troubleshooting mode while Windows is in Safe Mode With Networking. Adding an exception in my antivirus (NOD32) did nothing, as did turning off Allow Windows Search Messages in Advanced. Turning off Check For New Messages in Account settings does nothing. Nothing consistent shows up in the Error Console either, but I'm not a coder, so don't really know what to look for.

Ideas?

When I select a folder (containing subfolders) as a favorite, by default, in the folder pane, the total number of messages in the favorite folder also includes the messages from sub-folders (not expected). When I clean the Quarantine sub-folders, the total number of messages in the favorite folder doesn't include the messages from sub-folders anymore (expected).

Steps to reproduce:

I select a folder (containing subfolders) as a favorite.

Actual results:

By default, in the folder pane, the total number of messages in the favorite folder also includes the messages from sub-folders. When I clean the Quarantine sub-folders, the total number of messages in the favorite folder doesn't include the messages from sub-folders anymore.

Expected results:

the total number of messages in the favorite folder should never include the messages from sub-folders.
