Starting this morning (7-16-16) when I click on the icon in my task bar to start Thunderbird, the main interface opens, the program connects with my POP3 server, it may or may not download new emails, then everything just stops. Cannot click on anything at all. I'm not sure what to do. Any help will be appreciated, as I rely on TBird as my primary email. I have used my GMAIL account to register myself here since, obviously, I could not retrieve any response sent to my normal email account, which for reference is email@example.com.

I have noticed that since an upgrade to Windows 10 and a switchover from AVG to BitDefender 2016, the email "attach a file" dialog takes up to 20 seconds before reaching a selectable state. I have an SSD and have verified that other programs (Excel, WORD, CHROME UPLOAD, etc) do not have an issue - it's just Thunderbird.
How can I troubleshoot this issue?
My Thunderbird crushed by clicking on each email in Inbox ,and ask me to restart it , after restarting and clicking on email this happen again .

I have many local folders which i filter my mails to. Starting a few days ago one of the folders will not show the contained mails. It isnt a very voluminous folder just p2p messages. What i usually do is i sort my folders by date and arrange by the criteria... so i have subsections ( today, yesterday, last week, etc ) When i go to this troublesome folder all the subsections are collapsed and they have no tags at all. If i expand one, all i see are empty white rows. I can sort of get around this by clicking on the white rows till i find the mail im looking for but its far from acceptable. This is happening just for this one folder, none of my other folders have this issue and i have others which are used far more intensely. Also i did not install any addons recently, the only addons i have are lightning and signature switch and a theme. Yes this worked for a long time with my current custom theme.
Since upgrading to 38.5.1, one email account auto empties the trash folder, but the other account does not. Also, the text has random strange characters.
This is an old concern that got archived. However, it is still happening and I am reaching out for help.

Running Thunderbird 13.0.1 .. on OS 10.5.8 .. have been doing so for about 4 years. Tried to back up computer on June 30; backup failed: Error Code 36. Identified the problem as one Inbox (have 6 e-mail accounts Thunderbird). All other Inbox files can be copied. Tried doing a "dot_clean" still Inbox won't copy. Never had this problem before. No updates to OS or Thunderbird installed. Beyond puzzled where this is coming from. Any suggestions? (Can find Error Code 36 solutions on web--have run that--but there's nothing specific to Thunderbird). No problem downloading mail to this Inbox or opening mail .. I just can't copy it.

Thunderbird 45.2.0 on Windows 10. We upgraded to windows 10 a few weeks ago, but it was still working fine until today.
Every time I run it, it immediately crashes. Even when I run it with thunderbird.exe -safe-mode it still immediately crashes. It just immediately says "We're Sorry" and has the crash reporter. Here is one of the crash reports in normal mode https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/4148d2cd-b017-44e6-be1d-cf9ff2160721 here is one in safe mode https://crash-stats.mozilla.com/report/index/84e997dd-7a45-4a82-a9c8-201902160721
It looks like it is this bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1194856
I uninstalled Thunderbird, and reinstalled it, and the problem is still there.
I backed up my stuff with mozbackup, then uninstalled Thunderbird, then deleted AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird and AppData\Local\Thunderbird . Then reinstalled Thunderbird and it worked (without any emails). Then I exited Thunderbird and restored the emails with mozbackup, and it went back to not working again.

My thunderbird does not downloads any new emails all of a sudden. After closing Thunderbird, I get the Thunderbird crash screen. The following are the steps taken, but the problem still persists: 1. I have tried disabling all addons, and restarted thunderbird, but still no changes. 2. Tried to uninstall and reinstall latest thunderbird version, but no changes. I also tried installing Version 38.7.2, but no changes. 3. I tried to go to View-> Options->Security->Passwords->Saved Passwords, but there is nothing listed there. (I suspect this could be a reason for the problem.) Attached pictures for your reference.
The following is the Error Logs listed on opening thunderbird each time.

When I open Mozilla I get following error message. Sending of password for user [email address] did not succeed. Mail server mail.bigpond.com responded invalid user name or password. Tried entering new password with no success Then spent over an hour with internet provider Telstra trying to solve problem but no luck. What might be relevant is I had performed a scan using Malwares just prior to this problem occurring

I have eleven filters that run every time mail headers are retrieved from my mail server or when I start the filters manually. I get excessive amount of spam, recently increased; so with a few exceptions I keep only mail from folks in my address books.
One of the last filters executed is called "Nobody I know," which traps messages from any sender not in any of my address books. It appears that this filter is the one that stalls. A few messages are distributed to their respective folders, then perhaps one from an unrecognized sender goes to Trash. The Windows "busy" graphic is then displayed, and I can neither read nor write any mail. My inbox remains clogged with messages that are mostly spam, but which may contain a few valid messages. Thunderbird shows as using between 7% and 9% of the CPU; so I am able to use other programs.
When it happened yesterday I logged in to a unix shell on my server, thinking it might be a unix permission problem. Soon after logging in I saw that message headers were being moved from Inbox to Trash. I viewed headers in Trash and saw one from a business that was valid. I created a filter to allow mail from that business, then watched as hundreds of messages were moved from Inbox to Trash.
This morning shortly after I started Thunderbird the filters stalled as usual. I logged in to a shell on my server, and again the filters ran as they should, moving hundreds of messages from Inbox to Trash and other messages to the proper folders.
Some possibly relevant history: a view weeks ago a system disc failed and I had to re-install Windows and programs.
This may be a Unix permission problem, but how could my logging in on a separate process be a workaround?

When starting Thunderbird (45.2.0) under Windows 8.1, after a few seconds TBird hangs with the message:
Warning: Unresponsive script: A script on the page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding..... Script: chrome://msktbird/content/mail-msktbird_3.js:566
After several minutes it frees up for a while and then fails again.
Obviously "chrome" is a misnomer, and if I look for a near match on the PC, I find: C:\Program Files\McAfee\MSK\chrome\msktbird_3.jar - 9th June 2015, size 20,221
It's the only file in there, so perhaps McAfee has mis-attributed it.
Anyway I started a case with McAfee and they cannot find anything wrong. "Contact supplier" was all they could say.. They did try - re-installing etc. - but no difference.
Is there is a way to recover a prior mail db snapshot from a Thunderbird Profile using an Apple TimeMachine backup?

Running OSX 10.9.5 with Thunderbird 45.2.0. Yesterday the system was hung for some unknown reason and required a hard reboot and after that the Thunderbird never came up cleanly. The first two attempts resulted in a strange graphical interface followed by what appeared to be a normal startup of Thunderbird however, I believe the first 2 attempts were caused due to some corruption that resulted in the deletion of several thousand emails just from the Inbox (all local folders with mails were fine). I have a clean TimeMachine backup going back several years and was wondering if there is a way I would be able to restore back to an earlier point in time from yesterday or the day before. I have a 3rd party hosted mail server using POP. Any advice that may assist in the restoration of my mail would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Support Team,
these days I installed Thunderbird 45.2.0 on a new MacBook Pro with OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6 When I start TB I see about 7 minutes a rotating circle indicating that the system is busy. In the bottom line I see sometimes "Looking for folders". During that time a lot of data is transmitted between the server and the client. I tried not to select the folders for offline use. But this doesn't help. Once the process finished this mystery everything goes fast. I have a folder "Mail" with 188 files ( = mailboxes ) with about 4.2 GB total storage space. But this shouldn't be read each time.
If I connect to the same server with the same account but with Windows Vista and with Thunderbird 24.1.1 it goes very fast. It takes about 3 seconds, maybe 5 seconds if there are some new e-mails.
Both clients are using IMAP to connect to the server running Debian OS. If you need any additional information, like network traces ( pcap files ) from server or client I can support you.
For any help I am appreciative.
Kind regards Hans
