Every time I open thunderbird, I get the following error: A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: chrome://messenger/content/mailWindow.js:174

QUESTION: I want to know how I can clear this error.

lquander,

Are you using McAfee?

No, I was using AVAST. But I've since removed that.

Did removing AVAST fix the issue?

No, I should provide better information: I have 2 computers that run thunderbird and both run a windows OS and both ran AVAST. Only one has the issue and has always had the issue that turned up after an upgrade some time back. That makes we think AVAST isn't the issue. I have since moved them both to a new virus protection, but i still have the issue on the one computer. I think it showed up after the removal of the version that let you pop links up in a browser within thunderbird. It was a while back.

I was hoping an upgrade would fix it, but has yet to fix it. I'm thinking that last option will be to go find the data files, save them, then uninstall thunderbird and then reinstall and move the data files back.

The definitive test is as follows:

Start *Windows'* safe mode with networking enabled - win7 http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Still In Windows safe mode, start thunderbird in safe mode - http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/safe-mode

Does problem go away?

That is all versions. There is a preference that can be toggled to make Thunderbird act as a browser and this add-on does that along with some other changes https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/addon/thunderbrowse/?src=ss

Did you ever have that add-on installed?
