Hello all,

For some reason, I can no longer upload or download files, with the pop-up window failing to appear entirely. I can upload folders through, for example, Dropbox or Google Drive, but individual files don't work.

I've reset my browser, uninstalled and reinstalled it, opened it in troubleshooting mode, disabled enhanced tracking protection, but nothing seemed to work. I've tested another browser, and I was able to upload and download files just fine.

Is there anything I can do to fix this? I'm on Ubuntu 22.04 using Firefox 107.0.1.

I currently use Chrome on Android & Chromebook as my main browser, but I would like to switch to using Firefox now across all my devices (linux, android, chromebook). To do this, I need to import my passwords from Chrome to Firefox, and have them sync between the Firefoxes on all of my devices, but it's not working. I have tried the following:

Method 1: I installed Chrome on my new Linux machine. Checked and made sure it had synced my passwords by logging into a website using Chrome. Then, on Firefox, I pressed alt to enable the toolbar, then File->Import from another browser. The pop-up says "No programs that contain bookmarks, history, or password data could be found."

Method 2: Chrome seems to have a feature to export the passwords to csv. So I exported the passwords from Chrome to a csv on Linux. To be thorough (because I am having trouble getting this to work), I used accounts.firefox.com to sign out the Firefox on my android phone and chromebook, then (on the phone) I deleted my browsing data, uninstalled firefox, and rebooted the phone. Back on Linux, I did about:config, then set signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled to true, then did about:logins then menu->"import from a file", selected the csv that I just exported from Chrome, and clicked Import. Import Complete, 332 logins added, 1 not added because it was missing a password. Logins successfully imported, hooray! For testing purposes, I create a unique new password entry, http://foo.com username "a" password "b". Then I go to about:preferences, make sure that syncing is on and I'm currently syncing logins and passwords, and press "sync now". Log in to my phone, install Firefox from the play store, start it up, sign in using my email and password (it says "syncing"), go to logins and passwords, click "saved logins". The only one listed is for foo.com, the fake one I created to test the syncing, but I expected to see all 333 there.

How do I get this to work?

OS version: Ubuntu 22.04.1 LTS (jammy), 64-bit (amd64, x86_64). Firefox version: 110.0 (64-bit) (NOTE: the issue was noticed with version 109.0, too)

Firefox package was installed on Ubuntu through 'APT', using the Mozilla Team repository (https://ppa.launchpadcontent.net/mozillateam/ppa/ubuntu/). It caught my attention that an excessive amount of Firefox related 'DENIED' AppArmor log messages is generated during the browser activity.

According to messages, Firefox is occasionally denied read access to '/sys/devices/' area and read/write access to 'oom_score_adj' target in '/proc/'. Could somebody clarify why would that access be required for regular browser operations? I'm a bit puzzled as I haven't noticed anything similar with the older Ubuntu and Firefox versions. A complete suppression of those messages is also an option as long as there's no negative impact on application's performance.

I already posted this question to Ubuntu forum but seems like nobody there could provide an explanation. I'd appreciate any input or hint.

Following is the sample of referred log messages:

I have been trying to get a "media print" to format as I wish it to do so by using the widows and orphans CSS rules (among others). So far, regardless of the values assigned, the resulting print output still has widows and orphans.

Are those rules actually implemented in Firefox?

So, a preface. I rarely used this PC of mine, and thus the Firefox is rarely used as well. When i installed it, i turned on the option 'Open previous windows and tabs'.

Then, once I opened up some kind of offline documentations from Libre Office or Latex, which opened in Firefox. You know, the one where there is no tab appeared, and it just seems like a single pop-up window. I closed it without thinking.

Long enough, i forgot about that and opened up Firefox only to be met with that docs again. Okay, i closed it. But Firefox always started in this kind of pop-up window style ever since (attached). Changing the preference, even deleting the profile doesn't seem to do a thing.

Any recommendation to return Firefox to its original set?

For information: OS: EndeavourOS with Linux 5.15.94 DE: Xfce 4.18 with Xfwm 4.18 Version: Latest, Firefox 110, installed from Arch Linux repository

I have several machines on my local network. I work on machine A, and run applications remotely using ssh -X on the other machines. Today I discovered that when I start Firefox on newly-upgraded machine B, it's actually starting the older version that's on machine A. This seems obviously wrong, and is certainly not what I want to happen. I want to run the newer Firefox that's on B, and have it display on A.

Longer details: A runs OpenSUSE Leap 15.0. B runs Leap 15.4. I start an xterm on B with the command " "ssh -X -l me B", and programs other than Firefox I run from that xterm display on A's monitors, as expected. However, when I try to run Firefox (by typing "firefox &" on the command line, what actually runs is the older version of Firefox that is on A, just as if I'd started it with the same command on one of A's terminals.

Is this a known behavior, and if so, is there a way to work around it? Or am I just doing something really stupid?

Sync is a nightmare. It is so unintuitive! What exactly would be wrong with having separate Export and Import buttons for each of Settings, Addons, Tabs, History, Bookmarks, etc? I have a desktop box and a newer laptop I wanted to get up to date. I pressed the Sync button on the desktop ... By the way, there`s a link below that reads "Connect another device" ... Connect where? Someone is designing these interfaces who has absolutely zero imagination. Anyways, I signed off, moved the ethernet cable to my laptop, signed in, pressed Sync, and voila!, I got my Bookmarks, at least. But I have no idea how to get my tabs and windows. I tried with a "download link" something or other, but it seemed to assume I was sync-ing to a phone, and didn`t work. Any way to get my tabs?

Dear community,

As I use a few self-made unsigned add-ons, for several years now I have been using the Firefox unbranded builds on Linux with great joy. In the past these became available for download shortly after a regular Firefox was released. Lately though things have changed. The current latest release for unbranded is stalling at version 107. So it's getting further and further away from the official Firefox, which is at 109 at the time of writing.

Obviously I'm concerned my unbranded Firefox is not getting the same security updates any longer. I do realize there's alternatives for supporting unsigned add-ons. Running a Firefox nightly or developer-edition is something I'd want to avoid, so for me these aren't real alternatives. I've also tried tracking unbranded info on bugzilla.mozilla.org, but couldn't find anything relating to this 'lag'.

Where can I find more info on this topic? Are these unbranded builds being discontinuated?

Thanks for reading, keep well!

A friend (who knows even less about technology than me) has an old Dell Inspiron 1501 which has been running Linux Mint 18 Xfce, which is now unsupported. I'm beginning to regret it but just to keep it going for a couple of years I offered to update to Mint 20 Xfce, which is the last version listing 1 Gb as the minimum Ram (everything later or other version are 2 Gb or more), which is the most that system can use. Once the wifi was eventually working (old b43 broadcom driver) most things went fine (except Team Viewer, which works on another Mint 20 Xfce system, but that's not a question for here). However, she uses Yahoo mail, and for some reason just attempting to load the login page (login.yahoo.com) causes Firefox to crash (I mentioned Thunderbird in the title as I attempted to access Yahoo Mail with it, but because it needs to access the Yahoo Mail page (as I think this is now based on App codes rather than passwords), and doing that crashed Thunderbird also). I'm pretty sure I have methodically gone through all the troubleshooting steps on https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems (clear cookies & cache by deleting history; clear startup cache; refresh; reinstall; new profile). Firefox doesn't crash in Troubleshoot mode, despite the fact is seems to still use hardware acceleration, even though I thought it would disable that. Hence, I'm at the end of what I know to try (and that's just from following the guide, I am not an expert) and would be grateful for any help anyone can offer. I attach an image that lists all the submitted crash reports, as they will refer to slightly different conditions as I tried all the options mentioned above. I'm using my own PC to submit this (so any hardware & system data submitted by this web-form won't be relevant), not the Inspiron 1501 that has the issue. I can open the Yahoo mail page on this machine (same version of Firefox) and also on the Inspiron 1501 using Chrome (but there was a different reason relating to security why we couldn't log in via that). Would really like to get Firefox (and Thunderbird) working on the laptop, if possible.

Dear,

I need to recover my Mozilla (Firefox) account on my computer after this latter crashed. Unfortunately, apparently I don't have the good password. Probably I used an automatically generated password which I don't remember.

I still have my account connected on my Android smartphone, but I can't access the account details (no way to recover my password or change through this device?!), and I can't export my bookmarks. Also, apparently all my identifiers and passwords were not synced on my smartphone :-( Hence somewhere all my precious information are available, but stupidly enough I can't access it anymore and resetting the password warns me that I might (is it even a certainty or a possibility?) lose everything. It seems that I cannot even produce a revovery key (to reset pwd without losing data as mentioned in the Help pages) as I can't connect on a desktop browser anymore (but well on my Android version). I am lost and just stupidly blocked - this is SO frustrating, I initially thought it would be a good idea to put everything in Mozilla - well...

Is there ANY way to actually recover my account without losing data on my desktop Firefox, given I still have access to the email account associated to the Mozilla account (and to the original emails from the creation of my accounts) and I still have access to my Firefox account on the Android app but this one doesn't seem to allow to do anything interesting in my case??

Thanks a lot!
