When I switch back from another app to the Firefox browser on my iPad it jumps to a new tab

I use an iPad Pro 10.5” running iPadOS15.7 and Firefox 104.2. When I switch back to Firefox from another app, I get taken to a new tab. I see my original session for less than a second, then I get taken to the new tab. This has been happening for a number of weeks now, months probably. I was hoping it was an iPad issue that would be fixed with the most recent update, but I still have the problem.
