I really don't know what they did to the firefox browser a year or two ago but it used to be so easy to set your homepage and that was it. Now for me its practically impossible to put in MSN.com as my homepage and not have my main browser address line a google search line. Any suggestions from anyone that actually works ?

Are you talking about the home page? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-to-set-the-home-page

Or the search engine? Type about:preferences#search<enter> in the address box. You can select any search engine to be your default from here.

You can also remove any engine from here.
