What happened to all of my bookmarks? Firefox updated automatically and all the bookmarks from my menu are gone!

Firefox updated automatically on my computer and my "bookmark menu" option is gone from the drop down box. All of my bookmarks are gone!

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.
