Trying to get 3.6.10 security update, the installer download window endlessly displays "connecting to update server" but it never connects.

That about says it. i get the blue and white "working" bar, but it doesn't connect. I give it five minutes, then figure it won't work. Tried this several times always with same result. (I did ignore the update prompt for a month or so before trying.)

  • Download a new copy of the Firefox program: http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
  • Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re)install.
  • Install the new version that you have downloaded.
