How do I get Firefox to view the latest version of webpages when I return, instead of having to click on the refresh button?

I couldn't find the option to choose on Firefox to view the latest version of web pages automatically each time I return. I've been needing to hit the refresh button.

You can make Firefox always reload a page by changing a hidden preference.

  1. Type about:config into the location bar and press enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. In the filter box type frequency to bring up a small number of preferences
  4. Double-click on the preference browser.cache.check_doc_frequency and change its value to 1

For more details on that preference see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Browser.cache.check_doc_frequency

Hey, that solved it. Thnx for that helpful info, I appreciate that.

Is there a less "intrusive" way to do this? We facilitate online courses, and would not feel comfortable asking students to make this change. We want to be sure students are viewing the most recent version of their course so they get the most updated information (as well as not receive incorrect information).

I know that IE has a option to do this in their "Options" tab, and I feel like this would be a highly valued option for Firefox users as well.

There is an add-on that restores that functionality - Browse By Name - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name
