TB not downloading Yahoo pop3 emails again
TB is not downloading pop3 emails again.
What does this mean?
NetworkTimeoutError: a Network error occurred Pop3Client.sys.mjs:380:18 SecurityError info: Pop3Client.sys.mjs:440:20 SecurityError cert chain: legacy.pop.mail.yahoo.com; serial# 07:CF:5F:D8:B7:96:17:C0:9F:C0:58:12:90:5A:41:8F <- DigiCert Global G2 TLS RSA SHA256 2020 CA1; serial# 0C:F5:BD:06:2B:56:02:F4:7A:B8:50:2C:23:CC:F0:66 <- DigiCert Global Root G2; serial# 03:3A:F1:E6:A7:11:A9:A0:BB:28:64:B1:1D:09:FA:E5 Pop3Client.sys.mjs:445:22

This appears to be a certificate error that could be caused by several things, including incorrect server settings on your end, your anti-virus/security/VPN software, and actual certificate or server issues on their end.
This appears to be a Yahoo POP3 account. Is there something unusual about your account? I ask because "legacy.pop.mail.yahoo.com" is not their recommended server name. The standard settings for a POP3 account are:
https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN4724.html
Incoming Mail (POP) Server: Server - pop.mail.yahoo.com Port - 995 Requires SSL - Yes
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server: Server - smtp.mail.yahoo.com Port - 465 or 587 Requires SSL - Yes Requires TLS - Yes (if available) Requires authentication - Yes
Please verify your server settings.

The server name is set correctly in TB. No idea why is says legacy in the error message.
How do I get TB redo the OAuth2 security without deleting the account?
I've had no end of trouble since Yahoo required that.
Can anyone recommend a good email hosting service? Yahoo seems absolute rubbish now and they have made stupid changes to the web interface. It went from really good to absolutely terrible.
I do NOT want to use Google anymore than I have to.
To have Thunderbird OAuth2 re-authenticate your account...
- Make sure that you have cookies enabled in Thunderbird (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Accept cookies from sites>;
- Delete any saved cookies for Yahoo (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Web Content | Show Cookies>);
- Remove any existing entries for this account in Saved Passwords (see <Settings | Privacy & Security | Passwords | Saved Passwords>);
- Restart Thunderbird, after which you should be prompted to re-authenticate.
I'm somewhat skeptical that this will solve the problem. Usually you would see authentication errors in that situation, not "security" and "certificate" errors.
What anti-virus/security software do you use, if any? Have you tried disabling it?
I use Avast and I've tried disabling it but it didn't make any difference.
What I'm finding strange is that I didn't make any configuration changes for this to happen. It happened before and then started working again. Disabling Avast before made no difference.
The only change is I updated to TB 159 but I think I did that after the problems started.
TB talks to yahoo and tells me it is downloading 1 of x, but none download.
The only reason I wondered if it was related to OAuth is that I've used TB and Yahoo for years without issues. Then since OAuth I've had this issue.
Something else I just remembered and I couldn't understand. I ordered something from Aliexpress. When they sent me an email TB would not download any emails when it got to that one. When I deleted that one, the rest started downloading.
That is why I disabled Avast as clearly something did not like the Aliexpress emails. But it made no difference so I don't know what was objecting to the Aliexpress email.
This gets stranger and stranger.
I have an old email account with Yahoo. I just added it to TB and all the emails on that account started downloading instantly.
So, I guess that means it's not my anti-virus.
Yay Yahoo.
Please in the future when posting a question, specify your version using numbers. THanks

Nothing is further from the truth. That means that the newly added mail account does not have the trigger that causes your issues. But you have drawn some random conclusion not in the least based in the facts observed. Goodbye
