while doing a Thunderbird update, install helper tool repeats when launching Thunderbird

While updating Thunderbird on macos 15.3.2 Thunderbird started requesting Admin login info to install a helper tool. Appears to be in some kind of loop as the install helper window goes away but Thunderbird never launches again so I launch Thuderbird and once again the install helper window appears.

Delete the thunderbird PROGRAM directory and install again.
