Search window in starting page does not work?

When I try to search for something directly from the Firefox starting page I get no results but instead find myself transferred to the home page of the search engine. (Ecosia)

Is this by design or an error?

What OS? What version of Firefox?

I run IOS 15.5 with Firefox Daylight 100.1 (9384).

Checked my settings but could not identify a parameter which would change this behavior.

Walked through the settings without being able to find one that solbes the issue.

Will perhaps have to wait for upgrades of Firefox and IOS.
