Hello there again.

AMD FX-8370 cpu Oké. What are the symthones?Of this CPU can I ask? And is it the fan?

Tell me about this problems? Does it affect Thunderbird? Can you check your thermal marges? There is something like AMD OverdriveDownloads) Inside this package is a stability test

Check here if you are missing some drivers .

I could not respond yesterday because Firefox had a problem connecting to this page.

I may have found a workable solution.

First , to answer your questions: I don't use AMD Overdrive It is not the fan. I have a CPU Usage gadget on my desktop and a program from the motherboard manufacturer that monitors temperatures.

When I first installed the update, there was a flurry of activity in all cores of the cpu. This is typical whenever a program starts, but usually settles down after a few seconds. In this instance it kept going until I became concerned about the cpu temperature and closed Thunderbird.

I tried installing older versions of Thunderbird with similar results. I then uninstalled Thunderbird, downloaded a fresh version of 91.6.2, restarted my computer, and installed the new version with the add-ons disabled and no other programs running.

There was still more cpu activity than in the past, but since nothing else was running, the temperatures were not excessive. It took about 10 minutes for the cpu activity to settle down and Thunderbird now seems to be using a lot more memory than in the past. I won't be able to tell how much more until I close everything again (not a regular occurrence).

This is not ideal, but at least I can use Thunderbird again. I hope it will resolve with future versions.

Thank you for your attention.

Do you have 8Gb or more of RAM, that is about the minimum really, despite what the system requirements say, which when I investigated some time ago were actually less disk space than an install used. and I discovered the whole system requirements is basically copied from Firefox. Less will generally result in disk churn and way excessive memory usage and paging.

Note that many upgrades update the scheme used in global search. This is a slow process and very expensive in terms of disk IO and CPU. It is also a feature than needs to be turned off on slower machines. Especially if there are memory issues or limited disk space.

Matt, Thanks for your suggestions and comments.

I have 16 GB RAM. There is 1+ TB free space on my 3 TB primary drive. I also have 2 500 GB drives that I use for backups. I don't think RAM or disk space availability are issues.

I have been using Thunderbird for many years and have never noticed that it used a lot of RAM until this latest update.

The biggest problem I currently have is the CPU usage during Thunderbird startup. It may just be something I have to remember when I restart my computer and deal with for now.
