retrieving lost files and moving the address book
1. I had to delete and re-add my account. Although Yahoo tech support told me I would not lose my emails, I did. I'm using Linux. Do the old emails still exist and can I retrieve them? 2. I used Thunderbird on Windows 10 in my NC home. I really need the address book. Can I sync it with Thunderbird on my Linux computer in Florida, or is there another way to move it ?

What's your account type - POP or IMAP? Presumably POP, but please confirm.

POP. Yahoo tech support told me to delete it and add it back. That made it work on their server for a few hours then the problem returned. Meanwhile, I lost all my old emails after deleting. Since then, I have linked Yahoo with gmail and use Thunderbird to feetch from gmail. It brings in all the email from both accounts. Yahoo's server for whatever reason won't recognize my password, either from Thunderbird or Evolution.
When deleting an account in Thunderbird messages are not lost. Even though they are not accessible for Thunderbird anymore, they still do exist on your disc. See http://kb.mozillazine.org/Thunderbird_:_FAQs_:_Recover_Deleted_Account
If you follow the steps in the article and create a new account, make sure to give it a unique name.
