I can open a PDF but not print it without saving to my docs first. I want to just print the pdf not save.

Thunderbird does not open PDFs. You'll need to open the PDF in a 3rd party app, e.g. Acrobat Reader. I think it's possible to print a PDF from Acrobat Reader even if the attachment hasn't been saved to disk before manually.
