Firefox 45 still needs Silverlight for Netflix. I thought that Firefox would no longer need Silverlight after FF 38.0?

I'm running Win XP and Firefox 45. I read an online article (DEC 2015) that indicated Firefox 38 and later would no longer need Silverlight to play Netflix because Mozilla has finally implemented HTML5. (which I'm happy about). So my system no longer has Silverlight installed. However, when I try to run Netflix, I still get asked to install Silverlight. I thought Firefox was now capable of running Netflix without the need of Silverlight?

I'm running Win XP and Firefox 45. I read an online article (DEC 2015) that indicated Firefox 38 and later would no longer need Silverlight to play Netflix because Mozilla has finally implemented HTML5. (which I'm happy about). So my system no longer has Silverlight installed. However, when I try to run Netflix, I still get asked to install Silverlight. I thought Firefox was now capable of running Netflix without the need of Silverlight? On Windows XP, Firefox does not natively play MP4 video. Firefox uses the Windows Media Foundation to decode MP4s, and Microsoft never released WMF for Windows XP. So you can only play HTML5 media on sites that offer WebM or OGV or other compatible formats. Based on your experience, it sounds as though Netflix does not.

Did you post your question using Google Chrome on 32-bit Windows 7? That's what your browser reported to the forum. Windows 7 does support Media Foundation.

Thanks very much for the reply. Knowing this sure saves me a lot of time searching for a solution that doesn't exist for XP/Firefox and HTML5
