Is there any way to download a previous version of firefox the newest update is blocking features I absolutely need to have for my cisco courses?

more options

I cannot get my Password Box or my java tool to properly load or work on the newest update to firefox the java tool is something I have to have in order to complete my work in my cisco courses. So I want to know if there is a way to download and install an older version of firefox so I can have something I can do my work on without having to resort to using a browser I do not trust.

If you decide to try the Extended Support Release (ESR) version of Firefox, here is how I suggest installing it:

Clean Reinstall

We use this name, but it's not about removing your settings, it's about making sure the program files are clean (no inconsistent, corrupted, or alien code files). As described below, this process does not disturb your existing settings. Do NOT uninstall Firefox, that's not needed.

(A) Download a fresh installer for Firefox 38.2.0esr from https://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/all/ to a convenient location. (Scroll down to your preferred language.)

(B) Exit out of Firefox (if applicable).

(C) Rename the program folder, either:

(64-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files (x86)\Fx40

(32-bit Windows folder names)

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

to

C:\Program Files\Fx40

(D) Run the installer you downloaded in (A). It should automatically connect to your existing settings.

Does that install and run?

Note: Some plugins may exist only in that old folder. If something essential is missing, look in these folders:

  • \Fx40\Plugins
  • \Fx40\browser\plugins

Hi Verloren, PasswordBox unfortunately was not updated to work with Firefox 40 (its last update was in May). The extension used the old "widget" module to add its button to the tool bar and that module no longer exists in Firefox.

According to a user in another thread, McAfee said they are aware and working on an update, but no time frame was given.

If your online life cannot proceed without PasswordBox, you probably need to do one of the following for the time being:

(1) Use a different browser for sites where you need PasswordBox to log you in;

(2) Switch from using regular Firefox to using the Extended Support Release version of Firefox, which is designed for corporations but runs on all versions of Windows (about ESR: http://www.mozilla.org/firefox/organizations/); or

(3) Downgrade to Firefox 39.0.3, bearing in mind the security issues (Install an older version of Firefox).

Java still needs to be updated separately, since plugin safety is handled separately from Firefox versioning. You can get the installer from the following page. Since Firefox is a 32-bit browser, you should install the version for 32-bit applications -- it's either of the ones that do NOT say 64-bit in parentheses. https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
