many duplicated mails from hotmail

williamshih

I use Thunderbird system more than 1 year.

In recent weeks, I got mails from hotmail, there will be many duplicated mails. I don't know why. But my second mails folder from gmail is good, no trouble.

If your account is set up using POP, you could change to IMAP.

I had a similar problem recently and that's what I did, IMAP is much better.

This article explains the benefits: IMAP Synchronization

If you need help changing to IMAP check out this article: Switch from POP to IMAP account

If this solution is not to your satisfaction, please post in this thread again to get a different one.

Glamdring7, thanks for your reply and suggestions.

I use Hotmail more than 10 years. I can't easily switch to other account.

I use thunderbird over 1 year, and it is no problem. only recent 2 weeks has troubes on hotmail. I don't know why ?

I'm sorry, I did not mean you should change your email account to another provider.

I simply meant that you could consider changing how Thunderbird connects to your account. The IMAP type of connection is a more modern method and in my experience has stopped the problem you're experiencing. Also, IMAP provides synchronisation of all your folders.

Perhaps you're already using IMAP, to check click Tools > Account Settings...

(Alternatively, right-click your account name on the left hand side of the window and click Settings...)

Then click Server Settings and it should show at the top what the server type is. Either POP or IMAP.
